Lynden Air Cargo is a US part 121 all-cargo airline based in Anchorage, Alaska. Lynden Air Cargo conducts operations within Alaska as well as other locations around the world, utilizing its fleet of L382 Hercules aircraft. Lynden's structure provides employees with the family environment of a smaller company, and the competitiveness, expectations and rewards of a large, global organization. The Aerial Firefighting Driver provides essential support to the Aerial Firefighting Team in the form of safe support vehicle and trailer (support rig) positioning, maintaining and securing, as well as maintenance/air crew provisioning. This position may require up to six consecutive months away from home.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.


Maintains aerial firefighting aircraft support rig; includes: monitoring routine and scheduled maintenance needs and coordination with local dealerships or vendors for required maintenance; daily inspection of truck and truck equipment, trailer and trailer equipment, truck and trailer running gear for defects; fueling, lubrication and facilitation of repairs when necessary; keeping AFLM apprised of support rig condition.


Maintains support rig appearance, which includes interior and exterior cleanliness.


Positions the support rig as directed by the AFLM; follows departmental procedures and uses independent judgment in organizing and controlling the routine movements of the support rig.


Ensures compliance with DOT regulations as they apply and maintains required vehicle log book; includes maintaining a working knowledge and familiarity with DOT’s Educational & Technical Assistance

Program (ETA 508c).


Performs emergency roadside duties such as - changing tires, installing tire chains, changing fuses or light bulbs; possesses mechanical aptitude necessary to determine plan of action in emergency situations.


Performs attachment/detachment of support rig trailer - to include ensuring security of trailer when detached from truck.


Purchase of supplies/equipment for the aerial firefighting operation as assigned.


Monitors and coordinates shipping/receiving activities from local shipping facilities as directed by the AFLM.


Monitors Fly Away Kit (FAK) inventory and maintains FAK inventory spreadsheets – as necessary and as assigned by the AFLM.


Performs aircraft cleaning and light maintenance support – as necessary and as assigned by the AFLM.

High school diploma or general education degree (GED).



Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence.  Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to vendors and other employees of the organization.



Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and draw and interpret bar graphs.



Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to apply common sense and sound judgment in dealing with problems that occur in a highly controlled and regulated environment.

Current US Passport; preferred but not necessarily required



Ability to operate manlift/forklift, pallet jacks, and hand trucks. Working knowledge of HAZMAT insofar as identification of same. Knowledge of Windows, MS Word and MS Excel software.



Must be available to work days, evenings, weekends, nights or holidays and to be away from home for extended periods of time. Must be available to travel domestically and internationally without restrictions, including entrance onto military bases.



While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. The employee is frequently required to stand, walk and sit for extended periods of time. The employee must use hands to finger, handle, feel, steer and shift gears, and use feet to press pedals. The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and smell. The employee must regularly lift and /or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move more than 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and distance vision.



While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; moving mechanical parts; high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; outside weather conditions; extreme cold; extreme heat; risk of electrical shock; explosives and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderately loud.
